Birthed out of a journey of prayer for the city,which is over 40 years old, Urban Abbey is a cross-Church Christian community that aims to radically follow Jesus, and to see His Kingdom come as we serve the church, city and region through prayer.We know that we are weak, and often fail to live as radically as we’d like –we find strength in the combined commitment of the community.

At 15 Castle Street in Sneinton, you’ll find the physical ‘Urban Abbey’ that the community shares-some of the community live there too. This house hosts and fosters the core practices of the community. You are welcome to join us at this prayer house, though the practices can easily be adopted wherever you are. We hope to inspire and equip other similar houses of prayer all over the city.

We love the Church! We pray for her unity and fruitfulness, and are watched over & guided by a number of city Church leaders, and we encourage everyone in our community to be rooted in a local church. We are also inspired and supported by 24-7 Prayer, who provide significant input and care, and connect us with similar communities across the globe.

These are early days in the Urban Abbey story–we expect to refine, modify and enhance our practices and rhythms over time –do pray for us!
